I am a candidate placed on the ballot by close to 1,000 colleagues who signed my nomination petition. As the members candidate, I will focus on providing what the members want from their Society. The evolving world economy and changes in industry will provide major opportunities and challenges for ComSoc to provide meaningful and affordable services to its members. If elected, I will strive to make ComSoc an even better provider of technical community and relevant technical information through:
Soliciting and responding to member opinions on ComSoc's publications, conferences, and other activities
Encouraging on-line communities , interest groups, and seminars
Teaming with local Chapters and Sister Societies to expand our lecture series to reach more members
On-line content selection to provide customizable newsletters and publications
Broadened standards activities to visibly enhance our relevance to and support from industry
Collocation of more conferences with related industry events or trade shows to stimulate attendance, networking, learning and making business contacts, while reducing costs
Free and low-cost continuing education products, in collaboration with industry and academia, such as on-line tutorials and web-based seminars to aid member career growth
More attention to worldwide differences in professional needs and economic situations, including collaborations with national and regional professional organizations on publications, conferences, and overcoming financial and language barriers.
Having held all four Vice Presidential positions provides me with unique insight and experience for effectively working with Technical Committees, local Chapters, Sister Societies, the ComSoc Board of Governors, ComSoc Staff, our IEEE parent and other constituents to reshape and strengthen our global collaborations within the evolving business-focused communications industry, while enhancing our value to our vital R&D-focused technical communities.
